Fraud in crypto sales: common schemes and how to protect yourself

When selling cryptocurrency, the risk usually lies with the seller: a blockchain transfer cannot be reversed. The scams are similar throughout Europe.

01

Fake payment receipts

Scammers send screenshots of alleged transfers and urge immediate release. Only rely on amounts actually received.

02

Wrong contacts

Often, scammers pose as employees of well-known services on Telegram – with almost identical names. The only cash contact for KryptoEuro is @Krypto_Euro. Check usernames character by character and only use links from the official website.

03

Chargebacks

Payments by card or certain bank payments can be charged back, but the cryptocurrency remains gone. This is a known pattern in P2P transactions.

04

Warning signs

Be especially careful if:

  • a rate is significantly above the market price
  • Time pressure is being built
  • You should send cryptocurrency in advance before a cash meeting
  • communication should be moved to another channel
